Wrexham Council have released a set of images from the landslip affecting the B5605 Newbridge.

A section of the B5605 between Newbridge and Cefn Mawr was severely damaged during Storm Christoph in January, when torrential downpours caused part of the footpath to collapse down an embankment.

As we have previously reported Wrexham Council previously applied for funding from the Welsh Government to fix the damage to the area and secure the footpath and road, however the request was knocked back as it did not meet the relevant criteria – and there are fears unless there is some urgent progress the road could remain closed until 2023.

Today Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member Environment and Transport at Wrexham Council, said: “Work continues to be assessed at Newbridge, however the road conditions are not getting better and some more cracks in the infrastructure have appeared. We continue to work with our specialist geotechnical consultants to assess the damage and come up with solutions.”

New images of the site have been released showing new cracks and movement:

Cllr Bithell added, “We continue to liaise with Welsh Government and have had meaningful discussions with officers over what is required. We have not yet received any assurances on funding, and we as a council continue to look lobby ministers and local politicians to secure funding.

“In the meantime the diversions remain in place and unfortunately we are unable to re-open part of the road for one way traffic at this time. This we know is causing significant inconvenience to local people and surrounding communities.”
