A month-long celebration of Wrexham and everything it has to offer has been unveiled for September – the month we officially become a city.

Throughout the 30 days there will be series of events, entertainment and football games taking place.

It comes off the back of the momentum Wrexham being awarded city status and reaching the final of City of Culture 2025.

Wrexham will become a city next month, with the official letters patent confirming city status from 1 September 2022.

To mark the occasion a busy month of events has been announced, including:

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham County Borough Council said: “Working together with our partners we are keen to see Wrexham City and Wrexham County thrive and grow, making the best of every opportunity that comes our way.

“We are keen to explore the many opportunities that becoming the Capital City of North Wales will bring.

“We have also agreed that with our partners we will develop our cultural offering as we head towards reapplying for City of Culture in 2029.

“The events schedule for September will showcase what we do well in Wrexham.”

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy & Regeneration said: “We have already secured levelling up funding for the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct area and are waiting to see if we are successful in our re-submitted bid for the Wrexham Gateway Project area.

“This funding would have a huge positive impact on the development of the Wrexham Gateway.

“Looking shorter term, a busy month of events in Wrexham will help entice further footfall into the high street.

““This is an exciting time for Wrexham locally, nationally and internationally and I’m keen to embrace and celebrate our successes and vision leading forward.”
