Over a dozen arrests were made in Wrexham town centre over the weekend, with offences including drink driving, theft and assault.

The figure was released by Insp Luke Hughes as part of Monday’s public update on the sort of incidents that police attend on a daily basis.

Overall town officers received 115 calls on Saturday and Sunday, with incidents ranging from social issues, welfare concern, antisocial behaviour and criminality.

More than a dozen arrests, ranging from drink driving, theft, threats, assault, breach of the peace and drunk and disorderly were made.

Insp Hughes said: “I mentioned a fire that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, I can confirm that this appears to be a deliberate act resulting in three vehicles being damaged.

CID, CSI and local officers all attending the incident and enquiries are receiving detained attention as we speak.

I note that the incident referred to on social media involving a female having a phone stolen by two female suspects is now reported and again is receiving attention; hopefully we will be able to make some steady progress on that.

Sadly violence does occur in the town on the weekend (as it sadly does in most large towns and cities). We have had a few incidents on Friday and Saturday night, some resulting in injury others more public order related with arrests for disorderly behaviour.

I certainly make a point of following up all these incidents. We look to identify repeat offenders and then place robust bail conditions preventing them having access to the town at night or drinking in licensed premises.

We had a number of missing person’s incidents over the weekend as we do most days; at the time of writing we have no live missing person enquiries, which is quite rare.

A few RTC’s – “Road Traffic Collisions” over the weekend (used to be called RTA… had to change it as “accident” implied no one was at fault) However none locally resulting in serious injury, a few that will receive extra scrutiny, like the incident at 5am on Saturday morning, some gentlemen from Manchester. Just visiting the area?

We arrested a male on Saturday evening after he was stop searched by officers and found in possession of a Stanley knife. I’m raising this to highlight the positive disruption taking place and so please don’t think this is a regular occurrence. The stopping is, but is the finding of such item is not.

It appears to me that this is his first offence and he is quite young, we will look to do some educational work around this rather than move straight to prosecution as this could seriously affect his future. The matter now sits with the Youth offending team.

Finally the Pram Bandits, they have struck again. TWO high value thefts from retailers over the weekend. However I have a hot lead and we are move on this today, hopefully I can update tomorrow.”
