A man was found dead at the bottom of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct yesterday morning.

Police and ambulance services were called to the 126ft landmark shortly after 9am, however the man was declared dead at the scene.

The area was cordoned off and local sources reported a large police presence in the area.

The man has yet to be identified, but a spokesperson for North Wales Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious and that the coroner had been informed.

A spokesman for the Welsh Amublance Service said: “We were called to the location at 9.04am. One crew attended, they declared a man deceased at the scene.”
