This is Wrexham.com’s quick run down of the fun & fabulous stuff we have spotted in the local media which we encounter – usually the Leader, Post , local radio stations , BBC News etc. If you have spotted something good, bad or funny in the local media get in touch with us and we will pop it up here!

Monday 28th May

The Leader featured an interesting story on a week long event held by Wrexham Council which amongst other noise reduction tips was aimed to teach dog owners to stop their pet from barking too much. It included a picture of a rather scared looking pooch sat next to a microphone having the volume of his woofs recorded. We heard his name was Snarls Barkley.

Tuesday 29th May

On Monday night we were reading tweets from various Trinity Mirror reporters, they are the guys that work for titles such as the Daily Post / Liverpool Echo and the like. They were saying there were massive computer problems that threatened publication of the papers. On Tuesday there was no Daily Post in Wrexham until later on in the afternoon and even then there were no localised editions. We were told that its the first time in around fifty years that the Liverpool Echo was not published.

Wednesday 30th May

The Daily Post was back on the shelves by Wednesday, but judging by the random string of letters under a picture of a nasty car crash there were still a couple of teething troubles.

Friday 31st May

Things are getting a bit fishy at Rossett Weir according to Friday’s Daily Post where a new fish bridge is being built after the Environment Agency Wales decided that the current one did not meet EU standards. With the new bridge set to be built by September it will open up a 38km stretch of river for hundreds of salmon, sea trout and eels to flip their way up to. Fintastic!

Other than transfer speculation the back pages of local papers can get a bit barren in the summer months with no matches to report on. Sometimes this is filled up by endless player interviews or the customary snap of the Wrexham squad on a sunny beach somewhere near Rhyl for their pre-season training camp. However, reds fans were left a bit bemused this morning to find an interview with new Chester defender Paul Linwood on the backpage of today’s Wrexham Leader. This the same Paul Linwood who yesterday posted a charming tweet which read “To Wrexham fans caining me. Jog on.” There is a bit of history as Linwood did make nine appearances for the reds as a loanee back in 2005, but needless to say it would be difficult to describe him as a fan’s favourite at the Racecourse. We were informed that the reason for his appearance on the backpages was that “most Wrexham players are on holiday.” We understand Glen Little is currently tanning it up on the banks of the Thames with a jar of jellied eels (not the Rossett ones) and a red and white scarf to twirl to fan himself.

Wrexham.com Video

We created our first video this week and have had comments about ‘comparing and contrasting’ with the Council’s effort. So, we shall put them side by side and let you the reader do just that….! We did get one person saying we need to add some ‘Benny Hill’ music but we are far too busy ;-)
