A competition is set to open up the opportunity for one local business to put their name to a stand at Glyndŵr University’s Racecourse Ground.

The opportunity comes as part of a fundraising initiative from the university aimed at supporting students in the local and wider region in a variety of aspects.

Businesses can enter the competition for just £250, all proceeds of which will go directly to Glyndŵr Giving. The winner will be drawn at random, and will become the name associated with the Yale Stand – the stand opposite Mold Road on the far side of the ground for those unfamiliar.

Gemma Wrathall, Fundraising Executive for Glyndŵr Giving will draw the lucky winner on Monday 7th April. Explaining the reasons behind the initiative Gemma said “We work hard to raise the aspirations of our students and to improve the experience for them, not just academically but socially. Fundraising is crucial to this and will help us to build for the future of Glyndŵr University, as well as benefiting the local and regional economy.

“This is an opportunity for us to continue growing as a university, but also for a business owner – no matter how big or small that business is – to stamp their name on one of Wales’ top landmarks.”

It is hoped the goodwill shown to both Wrexham FC and the North Wales Crusaders teams will ensure a highly competitive raffle.

The winning business will be handed the opportunity to place signage on the Yale Stand for the duration of the 2014/15 football season, with the university set to run the competition on an annual basis – meaning the name associated with the Yale Stand will change year on year.

Those who miss out on naming rights will be featured in a match-day football programme.

Anna Marie Brown, Sports Manager for Glyndŵr University encouraged local businesses to get involved “This is the perfect way to raise money for Glyndŵr Giving and to give something back to the business community,”

“The stand will be named after the winning business during the 2014/15 season; they will also be able to erect signage in the ground to promote their company, which will be seen by thousands of rugby and football supporters, as well as visitors to the stadium and television viewers.”

She added: “It’s a great opportunity to support the University and the football club in what is shaping up to be a very exciting 150th anniversary year.”

Interested businesses can enter the draw via here (once the entry form goes live it seems!) or alternatively email [email protected].
