Overnight we covered the unfolding story locally and nationally as Wrexham voted to Leave, then followed by the UK moving to a Leave vote too.

Our live video and text updates from the count at Glyndwr started at 9.30pm and ended at 2:40am however we kept our tweet updates through the night until the overall UK picture was clear – you can catch up on our tweets via our Twitter Archive by clicking here.

2:39am We are starting to pack up so thanks all for those who took park and watched/read our coverage… here is a picture of the declaration for those who missed it:

2:38am That is a 59% vote to Leave in Wrexham for those who like the maths. Our poll had it at a lower 54% prediction.

2:36am The feeling on social media appears mainly at odds to that result, with many people voicing their disappointment at the vote.

2:31am There were 41 spoilt papers and told a lot less swearing on papers than a Westminster / Assembly election.

2:28am WREXHAM VOTES LEAVE total votes 70,407 total Remain 28,822 Leave 41,544

2:24am Returning Officer tells us results are in her hand, but awaiting a verification code from Mold, a green tick we are told.

2:22 Movement by stage…. result due shortly here from Wrexham

2:20 Anglesey has voted Leave. Pound dropping ‘worst day for Sterling on record’… until they place Iceland. Ho Ho Ho.

2:11am Denbighshire votes Leave and going by the piles of paper here we would be a little surprised if Wrexham does not follow. All counting finished just waiting for the doubtful ballots to be decided upon. Looks like 2:30am result…

2:01 – More Wales votes coming through tonight. Both Swansea and Blaenau Gwent have also voted in favour of Brexit.

1:58 – Some big news coming from Wrexham… border control starts between Wrexham and Rhos on Monday.

1:55 – Another Wales result. Flintshire has also voted in favour of Brexit!

1:48 – We have our first Wales vote. Merthyr Tydfil have voted to LEAVE the European Union.

56.4% leave and 43.6% remain.

1:38am We have Sky News on here at the media table so looking at the wider picture across the UK. We say media table… as we said it is us and the Daily Post, a local outlet is AWOL here as well as up in Deeside it seems.

1:25am The turnout figure at Wrexham in terms of actual number of those people who voted is 70,407 apparently.

1:18am Up the road where all the Wales results are being collated Flintshire have a flash new stage after using a horsebox on bricks last time around…

1:06am A few asking about declaration time, and what the feel is. We think 2:30am at the moment for our result, and the feel prior to the count was Wrexham will go Leave but that is a guess. Looking at the piles, some go higher for Leave with not alot for Remain, but then look elsewhere Remain look higher… rubbish answer we know, but it is early days.

1:04am We approve of this message.

1:03am Just spent a few minutes on the balcony observing the count, lots of nimble fingers, checking of numbers, the odd ballot held up for checking or retained for separate check. Own up, who drew a self portrait?!

00:54 For those watching the live video stream, what you are seeing is the big piles of votes being separated into the Leave / Remain trays. From there those ballots are then taken to be counted into piles of 25 with big neon markers.

00:43 Some analysis in on that turnout figure. Note its turnout, so those who voted out of who were registered to vote and not everyone was eligible or wanting to be registered.

00:38 – Quite a big turnout for Wrexham – 71.6%. Now the counting of the votes begins, could still be a few hours….

00:27 Interesting tweet from someone in the industry looking at the wider UK picture.

00:25 False alarm on the stage, as you could see live, one more box to go before turnout stats.

00:21 Trays being placed on tables ready for the vote count, which should be quite quick really as its two options aside from those of you who missed the box or drew a picture…

00:10am – So we have been here about four hours now. Sandwiches are going down a treat in the press room. Only ourselves and the Daily Post here covering the Wrexham count this evening.

MIDNIGHT: Newcastle have counted 129,000 votes and have the first proper result, voting for IN.

We also spotted this gem doing the rounds of political analysis:

11:53pm As you can see on the video feed tables are quietening down so we are expecting the formal turnout figures shortly.

11:29pm Its that time of the night where the initial fun of ballot boxes being run in has gone and we are in the vote verification lull. The next thing from here is the turnout figure which is worked out once the verification is complete. The early nod was 80-85% which is amazingly high, as comparison…. Wrexham Westminster: 64.2% in 2015, 64.8% in 2010 and 63.3% at 2005. Assembly Election’s in Wrexham: 39.5% in 2016, 36.2% in 2011 and 38.8% 2007

11:13pm – Going to be a long night for us – so our supplies have just arrived, courtesy of La Baguette (note – this was paid for by us, not by Wrexham Council or your Council Tax!)

11:03pm – Wrexham MP Ian Lucas is still here at the count. He’s tweeted the below observations from the count / referendum in general.

10:55pm All ballot boxes are IN

10:52pm – We’ve been told from a reliable source that turnout in Wrexham is expected to be a whopping 80%-85% turnout.

10:49pm For those interested in the process the boxes come in, seal gets checked and signed and even boxes that were not required are checked for votes. Process looks pinpoint from our perspective.

10:46pm We have reliably been told we could be looking 80-85% turnout here in Wrexham.

10:36pm We asked the question on pencil / pens etc and have had some feedback…

10:26pm – Further to our last update, here is a video of the huge queue of cars waiting to deliver the boxes to the counting hall.

10:23pm – Huge queues of cars delivering polling boxes in Wrexham this evening. Never seen so many cars arriving at the same time here – going by the number of cars, we’re guessing it’s going to be a very big turnout in Wrexham.

10:10pm – We have our second box – this time from Stansty. There was the sound of tyre screeches when the box arrived!

10:08pm – Huge numbers of people registered to vote in this referendum – 46.5million in total. No indication as to the overall turnout yet nationwide, but will no doubt start to get some signals through over the next few hours!

10:02pm Not heard it for Wrexham but if you are in the queue to vote you are still able to vote despite past 10pm.

10:01pm Been biting our tongues all day on this, but this pen v pencil thing are there any readers who believe there is a problem and if so, when exactly in the process does the rubbing out take place?!

10pm POLLS CLOSE! Thats it, we are all either leaving the EU or remaining in it…. rumours of turnouts as high as 70-80% in some places.

9:48 The stars are starting to arrive for the big show this evening, with local MP Ian Lucas and the Labour Group Leader on Wrexham Council Dana Davies just turning up.

9:40 For those interested on where the above camera setup is sited and how, its not that high tech… but it works!

21:30 – We are LIVE from the Wrexham count for the EU Referendum. Polls close in 30 minutes, so there’s still a bit of time for all you last minute voters!

DECLARATION ETA: The key question at kick off, when will the result be known? The timing will get more precise during the evening but we are expecting 2am-4am window.
