Hundreds of women – all dressed in pink – took to the streets of Wrexham on the weekend to take part in the Ladies Midnight Walk in aid of Nightingale House Hospice.

Now in its eleventh year, the annual event saw over 700 ladies dressed in flashing pink bunny ears and tutus put their best foot forward to help raise vital funds for the local hospice.

Over £55,000 was pledged in sponsorship as walkers chose either a 10k or 6k route around the town.

All funds raised by the event go towards providing care, comfort and support to local people and their families affected by life-threatening or life-limiting illness.

Speaking after the event, organiser Amanda Kinsey said: “Our supporters never fail to amaze us. The atmosphere was incredible and we are so grateful to everyone who took part for getting involved and for raising so much money.

“To see so many ladies all together, flashing bunny ears, tutus and all, walking in the dark, sharing stories and supporting each other, is fantastic.

“Many ladies have very personal reasons for doing the walk and brought lanterns to hang near to the starting point in memory of loved ones.

“Our thanks go to all our volunteers who helped, both before and on the night, including large numbers who marshalled the route.

“Thank you also to Wrexham police and community support officers and St. John’s Ambulance who helped to ensure the smooth running of the walk, and to Village Bakery who provided very welcome sausage rolls for walkers to enjoy at the finish.”

Amanda added: “Lots of local people turned out to clap and cheer the ladies and many local businesses sponsored their staff to take part. All the money raised helps the hospice provide care, comfort and support to local people and their families affected by life-threatening or life-limiting illness and is so very appreciated.”
