Wrexham Labour Party have launched their local manifesto ahead of the elections in a few weeks time.

The manifesto was launched in Queens Square, and was accompanied by the below statement. We had hoped to include a link to the digital version of the manifesto, however have been unable to source it as of yet despite requests, several paper versions were circulated on Tuesday. We will update this article as and when one is released.

UPDATE: We have the copies, and have uploaded them, so there are two PDF’s, the english and welsh versions.

“The people of Wrexham are being failed by an ‘arrogant, impotent and out-of-touch’ council.

That was the message from the opposition as Labour launched its local manifesto at Queens Square on Tuesday afternoon.

A Labour council would focus on delivering high quality public services ‘which meet the needs and aspirations of the community’, said group leader Dana Davies.

The group also has ‘big plans’ for the former Groves School site in the town centre, which the current Independent-Tory coalition has repeatedly tried to demolish at the taxpayer’s expense.

Cllr Davies said: “The Groves is an iconic building and we have big plans for it. Its current state is symbolic of the decline of this council and of its frightening lack of vision. While Mark Pritchard and co are desperate to knock it down – against the wishes of the people of Wrexham – we want to use it to help improve people’s lives by developing a centre for lifelong learning.”

The Labour manifesto promises ‘a thriving and prosperous community in which businesses are encouraged, skills developed, jobs created and housing needs met’.

Cllr Davies, who is standing for re-election in Ruabon, said: “Housing is a massive issue. We will introduce an innovative Local Development Plan which delivers new council houses as well as more affordable homes, and we will tackle Wrexham’s growing homeless problem head on.

“Labour will also introduce parking charges for councillors at the Guildhall to generate extra income. Why should we get it free?”

The Labour group, which is putting up 39 candidates, says it will introduce fairer parking charges across the borough to encourage visitors and regenerate the ‘tired’ town centre while working with North Wales Police to reduce ant-social behaviour in Wrexham.

Cllr Davies said: “Wrexham needs fresh energy and fresh ideas – and that’s what we’re offering. The people of the county borough need a council which listens. We will listen.”
