Jeremy Kent wins Gresford election – Welsh Conservatives Hold

Welsh Conservatives’ Jeremy Kent has won the Gresford by election held today, and is Wrexham’s newest councillor.

The election had been called after Andrew Atkinson disclosed he was in Panama on a working holiday, and then announced he was staying there and thus resigned his councillor duties as of 31st August.

 

The full results are :

Jeremy Kent – Welsh Conservatives 351

Beryl Blackmore – Welsh Liberal Democrats 165

Aimi Waters – Plaid Cymru 163

Aled Canter Welsh Labour 132

Charles Dodman – Reform UK 6

Alan Butterworth – Green Party 5

882 total votes – we are unofficially told there was one spoilt paper and a 35% turnout.

 

For comparison of tonights result, back in 2017 Mr Atkinson won the ward in the regularly scheduled election with 917 votes, with three other people also standing. Out of the 2,288 people then eligible to vote just 1,265 did.
