Acton was on the borderline between affected exchanges

Several Wrexham.com readers have been in touch complaining that their internet connections have not been working today. It is suspected that an outage of some sort has occured in the central Wrexham telephone exchange.

Wrexham is served by two exchanges, one in Grosvenor Road and the other in Gresford. The central exchange servers 21,224 residential customers and over 1,200 business customers and covers the main Wrexham area whereas the Gresford exchange serves north Wrexham.

Wrexham Industrial Estate is not thought to be affected, as that has its own exchange system.

BT have said they are looking into it but say there are “no exchange faults/issues in Wrexham today but there may possibly be a cable fault somewhere“.

UPDATE 3pm:

BT have been back in touch and say they have ‘drawn a blank’ looking into the problems.

They go on to say “No exchange problems, no cable faults and certainly no increased broadband or general fault volumes in the Wrexham area.‘”

We have a feeling that Wrexham.com readers may disagree with this…

Latest from BT: We are aware of a temporary problem in the North Wales, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire areas that are causing some people trouble accessing the internet. We are sorry if you have been affected by this, our engineers are now working to resolve this and we expect to have service back to normal shortly.

Please comment if this has affected you today, or is affecting you.
