Thousands of sci-fi lovers, comic book fans, wrestling enthusiasts and cosplayers descended on Wrexham today to take part in the first Wales Comic Con of the year.

For the first time of 2015 Wales Comic Con today took over Glyndwr University, with thousands of fans embracing the opportunity to meet some of their favourite stars, take part in photo shoots – and more importantly, dress up in some fantastic costumes (as pictured below!)

Today’s event saw some of the biggest names in film and television visit the town, with guests including Mark Sheppard (Supernatural), Emmett Scanlan (Constantine), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Eva Myles (Torchwood) and Norman Lovett (Red Dwarf).

Throughout the day there were a number of fan favourites, including the popular Q&A sessions with the stars of Red Dwarf, Game of Thrones, Atlantis, Torchwood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the return of the Storage Hunters live auction with Sean Kelly and and Jesse McClure.

Also on offer were a wide range of merchandise stalls selling everything from comic books, to custom made jewellery and t-shirts to stick on sideburns, courtesy of Storage Hunter’s very own Jesse McClure.

Outside the venue a Gaming Tent had been pitched up – offering gamers of all genres and ages the chance to take part in games such as Fifa, Donkey Kong, Pacman and Pokemon.

Also among the attractions of the day was a Cosplay Masquerade, the chance to have your photo taken with well known icons from Star Wars; live wood carving of some well known film characters and for fans of Frozen, a large Olaf who played the entire soundtrack from the hit film on repeat – was also seen wandering around the event.

Over the past few years, Wales Comic Con has developed a strong interest both locally and globally – with fans travelling across the world to visit the annual event in Wrexham. Due to ongoing demand and the ever increasing popularity the event has grown from a small event held in the Glyndwr Sports Hall, to a wide scale convention that is held across the University.

If you missed today’s Wales Comic con – fear not! Plans and rumours are already under way for Wales Comic Con Part 2 which is mooted to take place this later this year.
