High Street digital signage plans given the go ahead

Plans to install new digital signage in the city centre has been given the go ahead.

In June Wrexham.com reported that an application had been lodged to place a 2m by 1m display on the High Street.

The plans submitted to Wrexham Council stated that the board would replace the existing outdoor city centre map, which is currently situated outside the former Nationwide Building Society.

At the time the applicants said the new signage would consist of a “double-sided display poster to promote local businesses in Wrexham.”

This would include sharing key information on events and promotions to target the day time and night time economy.

Further information submitted alongside the application explained that the digital board is weatherproof, vandal proof, have anti-reflective glass and are easy to maintain.

The application has now been approved by David Fitzsimon, Wrexham Council’s Chief Officer Economy and Planning.

In a decision notice published this week, Mr Fitzsimon recommended that “any advertisements displayed, and any site used for the display of advertisements, shall be maintained in a clean and tidy condition to the reasonable satisfaction of the Local Planning Authority.”

He added that “any structure or hoarding erected or used principally for the purpose of displaying advertisements shall be maintained in a safe condition.”

The High Street digital signage is the latest in a series to be installed in the city centre, including on Lampbit Street and the Wrexham Library.

Earlier this week Wrexham.com reported that major regeneration works on the High Street are well underway.

They include the repaving of York Street, Town Hill, Abbot Street and the High Street – along with the creation of new green spaces and tree planting.

One of the biggest changes being introduced is the pedestrianisation of the four streets.

The regeneration works on the High Street are set to be completed by autumn 2024.
