Green Party Candidate Joins Wrexham’s Race For Welsh Assembly Elections

With the Welsh Assembly Elections just under two months away, a fourth prospective candidate for Wrexham has been confirmed this afternoon.

Alan Butterworth has been announced as the Green Party candidate for the Wrexham constituency.

A statement released on behalf of Alan this afternoon says: “He is a Wrexham resident and represents the Green Party because he wants to be part of a movement that challenges the existing status quo in Westminster and Cardiff and that can “shake up the Senedd”.

“He wants an alternative to the politics of big business and multi-national corporations, instead putting the needs of people first.”

Speaking about his decision to stand in May’s Welsh Assembly Election, Alan says: “People have been taken in by the government’s austerity agenda, the nation is sleepwalking into an era when public services will be non-existent and we need to raise awareness before it is too late.

“Green energy policies will ensure an affordable and reliable energy supply for householders, commerce and industry with the added advantage of tackling fuel poverty and conserving the environment.

“Our education system needs radical reform and we need to involve teachers, parents and pupils themselves in making change. We need a broader curriculum – one that gives equal value to academic, vocational, creative and practical subjects.

“We need to maintain an effective front-line health service whilst also promoting public health and reducing health inequalities. Our wider policies, such as transport, will also seek to promote health and well-being.

“The Assembly’s proposals for the mergers of local councils and community councils must be opposed – it’s time for a Green Voice in the Welsh Assembly.”

Alan is the fourth candidate to have been confirmed to be standing in Wrexham for May’s election, joining Plaid Cymru’s Carrie Harper, Welsh Conservative’s Andrew Atkinson and the incumbent, Lesley Griffiths for the Welsh Labour Party.
