Got Your Rubbish Excuse Lined Up For Not Voting?

Wrexham.com for people living in or visiting the Wrexham area

If 2017 is a repeat of 2012 there will be tens of thousands of people in Wrexham who are registered to vote tomorrow but will have a ropey excuse lined up for why they are not bothering.

The above graphic is based off the 2012 registered to vote numbers (so not the total eligible to vote, but too late for you unregistered lot!) with 96,601 being the whole tasty voting pie… only 36,780 turned out to cast a ballot.

The remaining near 60,000 people did not to vote. We imagine a proportion of those had a whinge about the Council over the last few years but did not exercise their chance to voice their opinion, but probably have a good excuse for why they did not vote.

Just 261 people voted in Plas Madoc in 2012 with well over 1,000 not being bothered. There was a 95 vote margin there.

In Queensway 1,659 people could have voted, only 453 did, and the winning margin was just two votes.

Yes but my vote does not matter?

As above wards last time around were decided by literally a couple of votes. In other cases the deciding margin was just in double figures, so you and your friends and family can have an impact on the outcome of the election.

I have heard nothing from the candidates so they do not deserve a vote!

We wrote to all 155 candidates, check out their answers here https://www.wrexham.com/election2017/ . Many are doing last minute campaigning, so ask a question and see how they respond.

What are those ‘ward’ place names?! I do not know what ward I am in!

For this election Wrexham is carved up into ‘wards’, some are pretty obvious where they are but others are utterly baffling to normal people, but you can click here to view an online map that will tell you which ward you are in.

Thats great and everything, but where on earth is the polling station?

Often they are community centres, schools or something like that. You can pop your postcode into this helpful website WhereDoIVote.co.uk and it will draw you a map with a route as well so there is no excuse!

I have never actually voted, so how do I actually cast a vote?

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm tomorrow, Thursday 4th May. The staff inside them are really helpful.

If you don’t have your poll card, you can go to the polling station and give them your name and address. You don’t need any other form of ID.

You’ll be given a ballot paper containing a list of the people you can vote for.  You take your ballot paper into a polling booth, and follow the dead simple instructions – basically putting a X in the box of the person you want to vote for.

You then pop it in the ballot box and it is all done.

When do the results come out?

Polling stations close at 10pm and the votes will be counted at Glyndwr University tomorrow night. We will be giving updates via Wrexham.com live from the count, with the first results expected from 11:15pm and completed probably by 1:30pm

Ah gotcha Wrexham.com! I have already voted via postal vote / will send proxy / something else so this article is terrible.

We like you, and want more people to be like you

You will not get a chance again until the year 2022 to take part in this again. Do not be part of the orangey-red bit of future pie charts.
