An ancient Egypitan exhibition currently on display in Wrexham Museum, has received glowing praise from members of the public.

Excellent, informative and fantastic are just some of the phrases that have been used by visitors to describe
Wrexham Museum’s summer exhibition “Writing for Eternity: Decoding Ancient Egypt”

The exhibition, on loan from the British Museum, displays the importance of writing in ancient Egypt, which was a literate culture long before writing reached Europe. From the written evidence which has been retrieved academics are now able to solve mysteries of the ancient civilisation.

Nearly 1700 museum-goers have visited the new exhibit since it opened on June 20. There have also been three days where school workshops have taken place helping to educate young pupils in Wrexham of this important part of human history.

Visitors to the fascinating exhibition have been picking up the pen to record how much they have enjoyed seeing the treasures of the British Museum on display in Wrexham.

One visitor wrote of the event: “A truly great exhibition. Myself and my children really enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed the interactive parts and learning how to spell like an Egyptian. It’s great to see things like this so close to home and for free. Very educational.”

Another added: “Was glad to see another fantastic exhibition here in Wrexham following on from the Mold Gold Cape. Very happy that such ‘national’ treasures from the British Museum can be shared without having to travel to London. Hope to see more in our area soon.”

Other responses to the exhibition include:

“Really interesting and informative. Much better than viewing in the British Museum as small items there can be overlooked. Nicely presented and explained.”

“What a fantastic exhibition and how wonderful to see it in Wrexham!”

“I loved the name game because mine has an owl in it! Plus I think Egypt is cool!”

“I think that the exhibition was great and the fact that we had a worksheet to do. I found out that I am actually not a bad artist!”

And one visitor kindly voiced a request to the British Museum on behalf of Wrexham Museum:

“Need more exhibitions on ancient Histories around the world.”

Speaking about the public’s response to the exhibition, Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “It is wonderful that so many people are enjoying this amazing exhibition.

“The educational element also must not be under estimated and the comments from our younger visitors are very interesting. We hope to work more with the British Museum in the future to bring further treasures to Wrexham County Borough Museum.”

These collections are now on display until September 5th at Wrexham Museum where you can discover the story of ancient Egypt as well.
