A 69-year-old father of five is set to ‘travel under the stars’ as he begins a 240 mile journey with a difference – and it’s all in aid of raising funds for cancer hospices.

Over the past 24 hours a number of people have been in touch asking why there are horses and carriages outside the Guildhall. The somewhat unusual scene on Llwyn Isaf last night / this morning is all part of a fundraiser by a local male, who is raising vital funds for cancer hospices and hospital ward.

69-year-old Esmor Davies from Buckley will be travelling 240 miles across North Wales and mid-Wales along with six Romany caravans and horses. Some Wrexhamites may recognise Esmor Davies from charity fundraiser last year which saw him raise £12,000 by driving a JCB from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

The group arrived in Wrexham yesterday after travelling to Caerwys Woodfest and Kelsall Steam Rally over the weekend. Last night to celebrate the team’s arrival in Wrexham there was an evening of live entertainment, food and a bar.

Esmor and the group are now on their way to Llangollen and will spend the next 24 hours there, before heading off to Bala, Porthmadog, Caernafon, Beaumaris and Betws y Coed – before finishing their journey at St Kentigerns Hospice, St Asaph on the 24th-26th July.

When we popped down to Llwyn Isaf this morning there were a number of people stopping by for a chat and to take pictures of what was taking place.

Esmor was also seen fundraising on Hope Street earlier this morning, with lots of people stopping for a chat and taking interest in what was taking place. The horse pulling the carriage seemed particularly popular with children!
