Full resurfacing works to northbound and southbound carriageway, together with concrete slab repairs and drainage works, is set to start today.

Last week some concerns were raised to Wrexham.com that the work could be delayed due to material supply issues with a note “changes have been made to the programme”, however we have been assured work will commence as planned today.

The majority of works will be carried out under a contraflow system, but there will be some overnight closures. Work starts today and will last for five weeks, with “a 24/7 working schedule”.

The North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) explain, “The main works will be carried out under contraflow which will allow the A483 to remain open to one lane of traffic in either direction. This will enable the works to be carried out on the closed carriageway efficiently and safely. There will be full overnight closures at certain times within the programme, to enable the installation and dismantling of the traffic management system.”

“This project will address the deteriorating condition of the carriageway to eliminate the current ongoing and increasing requirement for reactive repairs. This will ultimately mean less disruption for motorists in future and will deliver a safe, quiet, high-quality road surface for many years to come.”

There is ongoing roadworks in Gresford, part of the official diversion route. The NMWTRA says on that topic, “The Trunk Road Agent is liaising with Wrexham County Borough Council about the traffic signals in Gresford. Further resources will be provided to help to ease issues during the scheme as needed.

“Traffic will only be diverted through Gresford when overnight closures are in place, which have been limited to six nights northbound and three nights southbound. The remaining works will be done under lane closures, a contraflow and a diversion via the next junction on the A483.”

The work on the bypass should have already been done with work earlier in the year to upgrade the central reserve crossovers now meaning the contraflow system can be put in place using them.

That crossover work was delayed by a period of closures f”or essential repair works” undertaken by “National Highways” on the A483 outside Chester, with the current works “could only be started once the school summer holidays had finished.”

The bypass works are detailed as:

A483 Northbound works between junction 6 Gresford and junction 7 Rossett

  • Overnight full carriageway closure including J6 northbound onslip on October 11th-12th for 1 night.
  • Contraflow (all traffic on southbound carriageway) from October 17th onwards.

A483 Southbound works between junction Junction 7 Rossett and junction 6 Gresford

  • Overnight full carriageway closure including J7 southbound onslip on October 12th-13th for 1 night.

A483 in both directions

  • Overnight full carriageway closure on October 16th-17th for 1 night
  • 24h lane closures in both directions on October 12th-17th.
