A warning not to use ‘the water in any water using appliances’ while the flushing of local water mains takes place has been issued.

Dee Valley Water have issued letters to a number of residents in Wrexham and issued a statement on their website regarding the flushing of water mains that has been taking / due to take place across the area. Over the next few days there will a number of locations across Wrexham that will experience flushing of water mains, which could potentially leave your tap water looking slightly murky, cloudy or discoloured.

A statement on the Dee Valley Water website says: “This essential work is being undertaken at this time to minimise disruption to customers. However, you may experience some discolouration or cloudiness in your water supply from this activity. As a precaution, please do not use the water in any water using appliances during the overnight period or if the water is discoloured wait until the supply has cleared.

“Dee Valley Water is committed to providing the best possible service to its customers and this work is part of a major investment programme to address an intermittent problem that causes discoloured water at some customers’ taps. It is caused by the disturbance of harmless mineral deposits that have settled inside the pipes over time.

“Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused as a result of these works and thank you for your patience and co-operation during this time.”

A number of locations across Wrexham have already had their water mains flushed. Over the past few weeks there have been three incidents in relation to discoloured water in parts of Wrexham, with burst pipes and flushing of water mains resulting in some residents in Wrexham experiencing some very murky looking water.

If you experience any discoloured / cloudy water, advice on the Dee Valley website states: “If your water supply is discoloured after this work has been completed run your kitchen cold water tap for approximately 15-20 minutes to help clear it. If the problem persists, please contact our 24-hour Control Room on 01978 846946 for assistance.”

Full information on the exact locations that will be affected can be found on the Dee Valley Water website here.
