The Needham family present a cheque for £8,638 to Rachael Jones, Corporate Fundraiser at Nightingale House Hospice.

Local businessman Gary Needham and his sons have raised £8,638 by organizing a variety of events to help raise money for Nightingale House Hospice.

They decided to raised money for Nightingale House after staff at the hospice cared for Gary’s wife Viv who died earlier in the year.

The family participated in a variety of fundraising events including a sponsored raft race in the summer, a bowling night in September, a Go Yellow coffee and cake sale for customers at Santander’s bank office, where the eldest son of the family works, and they have also donated Viv’s belongings to the hospice’s charity shops, which raised £800 alone.

Mr Needham said of the hospice: “You can only truly appreciate how wonderful the organisation is once you’ve experienced its care”

Nightingale House Hospice provides specialist palliative care services free-of-charge to patients and their families across a wide area stretching from Wrexham, Flintshire, East Denbighshire to Barmouth and the border towns including Oswestry and Whitchurch.

This year alone, it will cost £2.46 million to run the hospice, which equates to £6,700 per day and only 19% of this comes from statutory government sources.

It is for this reason that the Hospice greatly relies on the generosity of the communities it serves.
