Family friendly event organised to celebrate Wrexham’s community heroes

A free family friendly event celebrating Wrexham’s community heroes will take place later this month. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

From police, fire and ambulance emergency services to mountain rescue teams, the British Army and Wrexham Football Club – the event provides a unique opportunity to come along to meet your local community heroes face to face, with a wide range of activities on offer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

It will take place on Queen’s Square and Llwyn Isaf in Wrexham town centre on Saturday 28 May between 10.30am and 3pm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A convoy of emergency vehicles will be heading over from Wrexham’s Ambulance and Fire Services Resource Centre on Croesnewydd Road to the town ready for the start of the event. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The following agencies are already lined up to attend: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

  • Calon FM
  • Red Cross
  • Fire Cadets
  • Denbighshire County Council Wardens
  • 4 x 4 Response Wales
  • Phoenix Counselling Group

The event will kick off at 10.30 a.m. and will include live firefighter demonstrations, military and vehicle exercises, as well as football games supplied by Wrexham Football Club throughout the day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is leading on organising the event which aims to connect with youngsters and adults alike. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Tim Owen, Partnerships and Communities Manager, East Area, at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This is a first of kind for us in Wrexham and preparations are already progressing really well, with additional agencies coming on board every day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It will bring together a huge range of different of organisations, providing the opportunity of engaging with local families whilst spreading the word on our work to protect our communities – as well as hopefully creating a welcome buzz and sense of occasion within the town. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
