Extra police patrols will be in place in the city centre in the run-up to Christmas with expectations that it will be busier than the last few years.

This is the first festive period where there have been no coronavirus restrictions in place.

In his round-up of incidents over the weekend, Wrexham City Inspector Luke Hughes said officers are preparing for a “busy few weeks.”

He said: “We are currently finalising our staffing and demand profiling at moment, ready for a busy few weeks.

“Personally, I feel it will be far busier than we have seen for a number of years, as we are well and truly in the post covid rebound at present.

“All I want is a really positive month and the sense of community to continue to grow.

“I’ve mentioned previously that on a Friday / Saturday night, we will be increasing the visibility of staff on foot in the city centre.

“Above is a picture of Rachel, Claire & Claire just before they set off. Three of the additional officers that worked this weekend to supplement our usual numbers.

“Their focus is visibility and reassurance also working with additional civilian staff (SIA security staff) to protect any vulnerable persons they encounter whilst out and about.

“And yes…. That is a Christmas tree you can see to the left. It arrived a few days ago.

“PC Danielle Fleming sneaking it past my office like a guilty lumberjack… We haven’t got a great record of keeping plants alive in the main office, so I suspect it will be looking vary bare by Christmas day.”

Afternoon good people of Wrexham,

I hope you had a great weekend.

The weather has not been too unkind over the last few days, but I’m told by my friend “Derek the weatherman” that it’s going to get cooler now, which will make it quite seasonal; but as its nearly December and as I long for a white Christmas, I’m quite pleased.

On football news, after a great second half on Saturday, all eyes on BBC2 at 7pm tonight. Who will Wrexham play in the next round of FA cup, with the potential for a Premier League home game… what could possibly go wrong?

And on that note – don’t forget the two local fan zones tomorrow – Wales v England. It’s set to be a nail bitter… all or nothing.

In regards policing, which is what I suppose is what you come here for, again better news. A low reporting weekend but it was not without incident. I’ll summarise below.

So, what have we been up to for the last few days?

Well, that lady that keeps coming to our attention for issues around her CBO was arrested on Friday. This following a warrant issued by Wrexham Magistrates Court. Now on a suspended term of imprisonment, we will continue to monitor and progress as required.

We also arrested a male who had a warrant issued in relation to an offence of arson that will be heard in Crown Court soon. It’s not hard folks – you get piece of paper with a date on it.

Just turn up and it saves a lot of work… Alternatively, don’t commit the offence, which would be my preference.

There was a bit of shenanigans on Friday afternoon when officers were called to some disorder on the High Street. Sadly, we also recorded an assault on a member police staff and also door staff over the weekend. Very frustrating, nobody comes to work to get assaulted – not officers or members of security staff.

Finally, a couple of more naughty incidents occurring for your attention.

Early Saturday morning, an arrest was made following reports a man had kicked a door and caused damage to a hotel by the A483 in Rhostyllen. The matter pending a few other enquiries before a prosecution decision being reached.

Then last night we had reports of a collision at around 9pm on St Giles Crescent, involving a VW Polo, a parked vehicle and some railings. Thankfully no reported injuries, although I assume not as the vehicle was unattended when officers arrived. Enquiries ongoing.

That’s all folks, please take care and tune in tonight – 7pm BBC2 and🤞🏼.

Take care all,

Luke
