With the Welsh Assembly Election just three weeks away – last night was your last chance to register to vote.

On Thursday 5th May voters in Wales will go to the polls for National Assembly for Wales and Police and Crime Commissioner elections. However to have to your say in these elections – you must register to vote by midnight tonight.   Too late…. deadline gone!

Wrexham.com encourages everyone to register to vote, and to check that the relevant information is held for you – you can do this online via https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

The latest figures as of 5pm today given to us by Wrexham Council show there are 51,589 registered to vote in Wrexham and 54,155 in Clwyd South. From April 6th to today, there has been 240 new applications added to the register in Clwyd South, and 299 added in Wrexham.

Turnout for the Welsh Assembly Elections has previously been low – with turnout for the constituency ballot at 41.4% back in 2011.

On May 5th you will have the chance to vote for your local AM (either Wrexham or Clwyd South or further afield depending where you are reading from!), a regional AM for the whole of the North Wales and also two votes for the Police Crime Commissioner (First and second choice!) – which is this year being held on the same day as the Welsh Assembly in a bid to boost turnout that was terrible last time around.

Laws set in the Welsh Assembly have a significant impact on how many services across Wales are run – including education, local government, housing, highways and transport and what is sure to be one of the biggest talking points of the election, health.

More information on the Welsh Assembly and the powers they have / what they are in charge of can be found here – and going by some recent conversations it could surprise you.

You can view the confirmed list of candidates for the Welsh Assembly Elections and Police Crime Commissioner Elections on our website.
