Wrexham AFC Women beat Connah’s Quay Nomads to seal off a championship winning season in the Genero Adran North league.

A record breaking 9,511 supporters filled the Racecourse to see the great game of football as well as the trophy lift at full time.

An early opener via a long distance direct freekick from TJ Dickens bookended by a late winner from top scorer Rosie Hughes.

After the game the Wrexham team were presented with the Adran North league winners trophy to cap off a remarkable season with a perfect campaign. Steve Dale’s side won all league matches scoring 70 goals and conceding just six.

The league win does not mean automatic promotion to the Adran Premier league, with it likely a playoff on April 16th against Adran South title winners Briton Ferry Llansawel to take place to decide the team going up.

Back in February the club announced that the playing squad is set to become semi-professional if promoted to Tier 1 – with an application now lodged for a licence.

The attendance was also a landmark, with an expected 8000+ smashed with 9,511 turning out on the day. The previous record in Wales was 5,175 in Cardiff.

After the game a champagne soaked Rob and Ryan gatecrashed an interview with Rosie Hughes, who said “I don’t think it has hit me that I just scored the winning goal in front of 9000 people. It is absolutely crazy, amazing!”

Ryan said to Rosie, “I had three little girls watching today of my own and they’re really inspired. They love you and they love what you’re doing and we are so proud of you, it was just incredible.”

Speaking of the pride and passion of Wrexham Rob added, “It was always here, and it is thanks to people like like Rosie and the entire team. All we did was shine a little spotlight – and you see that the town showed up.

Rosie added, “I’m so proud of the whole team, it was nice to get on the scoresheet and add to my top goal scoring record and to make it the winning goal as well with only a little bit of time left in the game. That was amazing.”
