A suspected stolen car was deliberately set alight just metres from a children’s play park in Queensway in the early hours of this morning.

In the latest in a spate of arson attacks in Wrexham fire crews were called to the blaze at 5.55am this morning on the patch of land down by the River Gwenfro just off Hightown Road.

The 4×4 was recovered by a green Landrover at around 9am this morning.

Scorched grass, trees and metal remnants could be seen along with tyre marks on the grass when we went to investigate earlier.

Robert Stead alerted us to the discovery and sent it the above picture of the vehicle being recovered.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a vehicle fire in the Wrexham area at 5.55am this morning. One appliance was sent and it looked to be deliberate ignition. Police were informed as it appeared to be a stolen car and it was well alight when we arrived at the scene.”
