A vehicle fire on the A55 has resulted in road closures and long delays for motorists this afternoon.

Final update: All lanes have now reopened.

Update: Wendy has just told us the vehicle involved has been taken away and traffic is now moving slowly.

The driver has been in touch to say he is ok, but shaken after the incident. Video and a picture of the vehicle have also been posted online.

Queues reached back to around five miles due to the incident, with people out of their vehicles due to the stoppage.

Shortly before 3:30pm this afternoon there reports that there was standstill traffic on the A55 Southbound due to a car fire.

It is thought the vehicle fire has taken place near the junction to the Posthouse Roundabout.

As a result there are long delays on the A55 southbound, with traffic at a standstill in both lanes.

Cheshire Police have since tweeted: Motorists: “Road closures in place following a vehicle fire on A55 Southerley by pass, A55 and A41 slip.”
