AM Calls For End To Arson Attacks
Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has called for arsonists who have plagued Wrexham to be named and shamed.
A string of arson attacks upon communities in and around Wrexham including an animal sanctuary have led to public concern and strains upon North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Recent incidents include attacks on public land at Alyn Waters Country Park and Bradley back in June, accommodation near the Racecourse in May and a string of other private properties in and around Wrexham.
Most recently vandals targeted HACK horse sanctuary in Llay on Monday evening, causing £10,000 worth of damage at the volunteer-led sanctuary for mistreated horses and donkeys.
A brand new barn worth £4,000 and a trailer worth £2,000 both went up in smoke along with a stock of hay stored on the trailer.
The incidents have led North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to raise concerns about the impact of the fires upon their ability to reach other call outs.
Voicing her support for the fire services Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths has issued a plea to the general public to help identify the arsonists involved and come forward with information leading to an arrest.
She said: “Like many in Wrexham I cannot understand what would possess these individuals to act in this way.
“I am concerned that these individuals are putting themselves and others at risk. Any of these fires could have led to serious injuries or even deaths, and it is time this activity was put to a stop, for the sake of the fire services, the safety of the general public and the communities affected.
“With the recent fire at HACK horse sanctuary inflicting thousands of pounds of damage to an organisation which does nothing but good for animals and the community, these criminals have shown total disrespect for the communities around them. The people of Wrexham will not put up with living in fear.
“I appeal to anyone who knows has any information on or knows the individuals involved, or parents who smell smoke on the clothes of their teenagers to consider reporting this to the authorities.
She has also encouraged people to donate money to HACK to help with their rebuilding efforts, if you wish to leave a donation then visit www.justgiving.com/hackhorse/donate
