BT Clarifies Wrexham Fibre Broadband Delays
On new years eve we wrote about the changing dates of the new broadband roll out in Wrexham.
Ann Beynon, BT’s Wales Director, got in touch as she wished to clarify the situation.
Ann said “Firstly, Wrexham North and Wrexham exchanges are now accepting orders, and have been doing so since the end of November in the case of Wrexham itself. Many homes and businesses served by Wrexham, Wrexham North and Gresford exchanges are already taking advantage of the benefits of this technology brings.”
“The confusion may be that not all the planned cabinets in Wrexham have so far been activated, and for engineering/commercial reasons some are not in the current plans.”
“As with all major civil engineering work it is inevitable that unforeseen circumstances can result in some cabinets being enabled later than was originally planned and this has been the case in the Wrexham central exchange area. However, Openreach is working hard to complete the roll-out programme as quickly as possible.”
She added “It is also worth noting that Wrexham and Wrexham North have also been included in the target area for the Superfast Cymru partnership between Welsh Government and BT which builds on BT’s existing investment with the aim being that 96 per cent of Welsh homes and businesses will have access to world class broadband speeds of up to 80Mbps by the end of 2015.”
Wrexham.com asked for further information on which cabinets will not be activated, however we were told that it would be ‘really difficult’ to provide an accurate list due to issues with aligning the cabinet numbers with streets and premises. Generally the advice seems to be to check the BT service checker which ought to tell you if and when your cabinet will be enabled.
We have yet to hear from anyone without a ‘coming soon’ date – so let us know if dont have one!
