Sharp is unveiling a plan to restructure its business with its Hamburg headquarters being moved to Wrexham. The aim is to create a ‘centre of excellence’ based around solar technology in the UK.

Sharp have been operating out of Wrexham for the last 28 years and there were rumours they were thinking of scaling back operations last year – which we reported on back in November.

The news comes as Sharp also announce a big change in their product line, rather than focusing on components sales they are now to offer ‘PV-kits’.

The PV-Kit offering is a landmark move for Sharp” Andrew Lee, manager of Solar at Sharp, said. “The UK solar market has been through a turbulent 18 months but, through innovating and adapting, the UK solar industry is well placed to grow. This is why we are shifting our business model to focus on PV-Kit systems, and we urge installers to work with us to get this industry back on its feet and standing tall once again.

Sharp also said any installer partnering with Sharp to sell the new systems will receive training at the Sharp Academy, based in Wrexham.

Wrexham Council have also recently completed the installation of solar panels on over 3,000 homes.
