Firefighters have been damping down the fire at Berse Farm throughout the night after a blaze broke out in a barn injuring two brothers working on the farm.

We were the first to break news of the fire at the site of this year’s National Eisteddfod yesterday afternoon after receiving reports and pictures from @wrexham followers on Twitter.

Thick black smoke could be seen from all over town and people reported smelling the smoke from as far away as Little Acton.

At the height of the incident, six crews from North Wales Fire and Rescue were at the scene, and there is currently one crew still present with ground monitors and hose jets damping at the scene of the fire.

Crews were called to the property at 14:09pm yesterday to the fire which affected a large barn housing hay, fertilizer, farm machinery and tyres.

Two brothers working on the farm were injured one has been discharged from hospital with superficial burns and the other has been transferred to Whiston Hospital, Merseyside for assessment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but North Wales Police said that they were not treating it as suspicious.
