Barclays Payments In Shops Failing After Widespread ‘Technical Issues’

Several readers have been in touch to say their card payments in shops in the area have been failing today after a wider problem with the bank.

It appears all had Barclays as their provider in common, with chip and pin and contactless payments failing. Pay at pump also appears to not be authorising for some customers, and one report of a cashpoint failing.

Signage has been appearing in some branches across the UK referring to total system issues with them also closing early.

Barclays have said formally: “Technical issues are affecting some digital services. We’re investigating this and apologise for any inconvenience.”

There is currently no information when the issue will be fixed.
