Teenager seriously injured after assault – with ‘increased police presence this evening’

Update: Police have just said “Please be aware we are dealing with an on going incident on Hightown Road, Wrexham. The road is currently closed. Please avoid the area. Thank you”.

The helicopter has now left the area.

Update: Further police operations are taking place this evening – with a large number of police vehicles attending Derby Road / Hightown Road.

The police helicopter is back overhead for the third time as what is believed to be investigations connected to the serious assault of a teenager are ongoing.

Earlier this afternoon other areas of Wrexham, including Empress Street (pictured top via Sarmi Razavi) and Rhostyllen also saw large police activity along with the helicopter overhead.

Update: Police have issued a new statement, saying an 18 year old was taken to hospital with serious injuries, they also repeat the witness appeal.

The full statement from North Wales Police reads: “Police are investigating a serious assault that happened shortly before midday today in the vicinity of Morrisons Supermarket in Wrexham. Officers attended the incident, along with colleagues from the Ambulance service, in which an 18-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Please be aware that there will be an increased police presence in the area this evening whilst our enquiries into the incident continue. We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about this incident to get in touch with us via our website or by calling 101 and quoting ref z119739.”

Update: North Wales Police have issued a short statement following the incident just before lunchtime today: “We are investigating a serious assault that happened shortly before 12pm today near Morrisons in Wrexham. You may see an increased police presence this evening whilst our enquiries continue.”

“We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with info to get in touch quoting ref z119739”.

Update: The police helicopter returned to the skies of Wrexham later this afternoon, with police attending an address on Empress Road, and officers patrolling the Rhostyllen area.

No details have been released by North Wales Police on the earlier incident, or the latest response that has seen armed police in Wrexham.

One person has been arrested by armed police assisted by dog units in the car park of Aldi on Ruthin Road.

The arrest is believed to be in connection with an incident that took place around Watery Road / Llys David Lord just after midday, with one person believed to be injured.

Two other individuals were detained by officers.

No official statement has yet been issued by North Wales Police.

The police helicopter is still overhead.

Watery Road is closed off this lunchtime.

Police and the ambulance service are attending an incident on Watery Road, with a cordon in place blocking access from Island Green roundabout westwards.

The police helicopter has been over since around 12:30PM.

Bradley Road is open to traffic.

A number of police vehicles are patrolling Ruthin Road / Bryn Offa.
