20 Residential Care Bungalows Proposed For Wrexham
20 extra care bungalows could be built in Wrexham if planning proposals are passed.
In an application submitted to Wrexham Council it is proposed that 20 bungalows are built on land on Vicarage Lane, Gresford.
Currently the site proposed is occupied by residential care home, Trewythen Hall – however it is proposed that 20 two bedrooms which are suitable for retirement.
The bungalows would be purpose built to accommodate those requiring care and support, but who are also capable of living in a home setting.
The proposed homes form part of a larger site that occupies a residential care home and 19 retirement bungalows.
If the planning application is successful the bungalows would benefit from the supportive living that is already provided at the existing care home.
Within the application’s Design and Access Statement it notes: “There are currently 19 x 2 bed bungalows on site that are already used in this way, providing safe community living for couples and single people of a similar age range and situation.
“The proposed development seeks to replicate the existing residential development to the east of the site in terms of scale and in its provision for assisted and independent living for elderly residents.”
Currently the land for the proposed development is used as curtilage / garden area for Trewythen Hall.
Aesthetically the new bungalows would be in-keeping with the existing properties, with a red brick and grey slate used on the exterior of the properties.
Along with this level ramped access as required will also be provided for inclusive access without steps.
A total of 20 car parking spaces will also be provided for the new development.
Within the application’s accompanying documents it states: “There is a clear need for this type of development, which would address the specialist housing requirements of a selection of the population who are currently poorly provided for on a national and local level.”
The application is expected to go before Wrexham’s Planning Committee at a later date.
