38% of people booked in for a vaccination yesterday by Alyn Family Doctors at the Bryn Darland Surgery did not turn up.

Alyn Family Doctors said of the vaccination operation yesterday, “We had a great day today vaccinating at the Legion with our friends and colleagues at Bryn Darland Surgery vaccinating the 18 – 39 age group. Despite the hot weather, great community spirit was in evidence, and thank you to all of our patients who attended.”

“However, 38% of patients booked in today did not attend their appointment. That’s around 400 people who did not turn up without cancelling or rescheduling.”

With the vaccines being a fragile temperature sensitive item they have to be used within a defined timeframe or will go to waste, however due to a huge effort from vaccination staff they managed to call people in to make sure ‘no doses were wasted’, they pointed out: ” This is a huge admin burden on staff to undertake during a clinic. ”

“We know that there are many reasons that people may need to change a booking, but please let us know. We also realise that, with the good weather and things opening up, it’s tempting to forego vaccination, but we ask you to prioritise your booking.”

“It’s so important to get vaccinated, especially with the Delta variant increasing. Please, please, please attend your booked appointments, or contact us and we can reschedule you. It’s incumbent on all of us to do the best we can to make our communities safe.”

Earlier: All eligible adults across Wales offered first dose of coronavirus vaccine six weeks ahead of schedule, health minister announces.
