    Dear Councillor Wynn,

You state that the City Of Culture 2025 bid is the most important thing. I agree with you on this. But this has nothing to do with Wrexham becoming a city. We don’t need to be a city to be City of Culture. I doubt the panel are checking the voting as part of their decision.

I very much doubt that national brands pay any attention to whether an area has city status or not. They are more professional than that – they have many more metrics that they would consider. Making Wrexham a better town would attract them much more than having the same old Wrexham but calling itself a city.

You quoted the football clubs new owners. They had just arrived in Wrexham for the first time and were put on the spot with that question. They gave the politically correct answer, not the conclusion they had come to after careful thought of their opinions on whats best for Wrexham based on deep knowledge of the town. After all they were more than happy to invest millions into Wrexham despite it being a town. They did not care that is was not a city.

I note that you failed to mention the independent report that was created for the council. The one that showed that successful city status bidders actually fared worse in the long run than those who were not.

Lets just concentrate on making Wrexham the best we can. Not sticking meaningless labels on it.

They did get 13 million for the aquaduct. Not sure why it needs 13 million. I hope they are not still planning on building the cablecar to nowhere.

Paying for surveys and studies is a great way of transferring council funds to councilors pockets via the back door. So no surprise they are always so popular.

Now his money making scheme has come to an end Paterson didn’t want to hang around and spend his days dealing with the concerns of the common people aka his constituents, so he has resigned.

Distinct identity:- Spice capital of Wales
Civic pride:- People tend to proud that they are not far from Llangollen and Chester.
    Cultural infrastructure:-
Record of innovation:- if you go back to 1805 the Aquaduct at Fron was cutting edge. Not so much innovation these days.
Sound governance and administration:- Einsteins that decide not to provide bins because people tend to put litter in them. Endless crazy planning decisions. Constant city status bids purely so they can demand higher pay now they are in charge of a city.
Associations with Royalty:- Does Hollywood ‘royalty’ count? Her majesty did choose Wrexham for one of her largest prisons.

Criminal offence to flypost. Councils have powers to issue £100 fixed penalty per illegal item. So £1000 from that gate alone. Or they could just increase the council tax instead and do nothing. Wonder which they will go for.

The sign was a Vanarama publicity stunt.

Highly unlikely Wrexham will win so expenditure will be limited to the cost of the application. Now, if they had teamed up with Llangollen then they may have stood a chance. Maybe the RR/RM angle will give them a slightly improved chance but can’t see it winning.

The Afghans alone will wipe out 10 houses (and this number will probably end up rising). So while 13 new houses is great, they need a lot more.

Not a real Premier though. More of a token gesture. Just as RR being gutted that he has never actually been to Wrexham blaming quarantine is more of an excuse than reality.

Also, why was hardly anyone wearing a mask at the Premier (including the Mayor)?. I thought that it was still a legal requirement to wear a mask in public places in Wales. Or are they using a technicality that because it was invite only it does not count as a public place even though cinemas are normally public places?
