Most of Staples’ business comes from online orders. Even with a shop in town no business is going to pay its employees to go and buy things from Staples itself when it can be bought online and arrive the next day in much larger amounts.

Because of the new fibre I can get 36mbps in Coedpoeth, when the advertised is 40mbps! It is quite speedy.

Bennett’s Garage (not Kwit-Fit next door) is also a bit of Heritage as a depot for the old Tram network that ran from there all the way to the Johnstown depot.

You can still see the tram lines on the floor of the garage when the roller door is open.

Openreach – Superfast fibre broadband – Where and when

This changed pretty sharpish, it seems the Wrexham North and Gresford (which covers Llay) exchanges are accepting orders, but Wrexham itself is still “coming soon” with a predicted date of December.

The only thing that I don’t agree with is the slow growth angle. I’m no businessman but surely striking while the iron is hot is the best way? The demand there is now might not be there in a year.. say if some other enterprising Welsh chaps make their own “celtic lager”.

I checked my line today on the Wholesale checker and then multiple providers to confirm and Fibre has become available up in my end of Coedpoeth. If people are looking to upgrade, keep checking.

When fibre networks were first built by BT, the maximum speed was 40mbps; they have since doubled this to 80mbps. Right now on copper, the theoretical max is 24mbps, but this depends on distance to the exchange itself. As Wrexham itself has one exchange for the whole town, it’s pretty poor for speeds.

On FTTC, Wrexham should get a maximum of 80mbps – speed will depend on your homes proximity to the new Cabinets I’ve seen sprouting up around town – these things. I am down the road from mine and have been advised I will get 68mbps – in Coedpoeth. This page has a table on it which is indicative of distance/speed

Seeing as it’s BT’s network, any fibre provider can be used, except those with their own network (Virgin). So nobody will need to use any particular provider.

I’m connected to North and get roughly 7mbps on 21CN. It got worse, as prior to 21CN I routinely got 8mbps.

These are actually spot on the BT estimations though (see here)

It estimates I will get 60mpbs on FTTC. Hopefully that is also spot on!

Both Wrexham and Wrexham North have dates of the 31/12/12 set for FTTC. Both exchanges have had 21CN for some time.

This website grabs the info straight from BT wholesale so you can see for yourself:

    Wrexham Exchange
    Wrexham North Exchange

Stick your landline into this link to see which exchange you’re plugged into.

The trial has most likely gone ahead because the road and footway fail to meet modern standards.

I note that surrounding roads have had axle counters installed on them to measure traffic flow (the two strips of piping that run across the road and connect to a steel box).
