What has the council got about green spaces in town and surrounding areas?

How many fields have been earmarked for building rather than using brown land. If you look at the intake for St Mary’s then its not for locals its for Catholics so they need to travel to school anyway. Why not make it outside of town on a piece of land that has gone to waste?

And them there is the Groves site ….

There is an infatuation with building on nine acre, as pointed out, there is a derelict school site that is covered by an education only covenant.
Yet nine acre is the only site considered.

Exactly what is it about the Groves site and /or nine acre that we are not being told?

Surprised that the Groves site hasn’t been earmarked for an all through, Pre school to Sixth Form school, for either a Welsh, Faith or a specialised Academy. Now the football club has no interest in the site , there is plenty of room for a new build Primary School and a re-furnished and extended Secondary School. It has a central location, parking and bus bay already exists. The Nine Acre could provide extended playing field facilities and an environmental area for Forest School activities including a pond, garden and rural crafts. All that’s needed is someone with vision to explore a unique opportunity.

For those with short memories, the Groves was the first location for this school: https://www.wrexham.com/news/replacement-faith-school-could-be-built-on-groves-site-after-demolition-108876.html

When the council told Coleg Cambria to bugger off and proposed building two new schools on the Groves site the locals came out and got it listed, same old unfounded scaremongering about possible Tescos or houses suddenly going there instead and ruining the area.

You can’t get the grant money for doing up the old building as it has to conform to current regulations to qualify, so the council are stuck with an old lemon there.

As a result the eye of Sauron turned to Nine Acres.

Victoria and St Giles are two Wrexham primary schools that were completely remodelled, some time ago. Bringing old buildings back to life is environmentally friendly and often far cheaper and result in a better quality of building. Rules are only rules when those in power wish to implement them , when they don’t suit a situation those in power change them. Remember when the Council said the Groves buildings were unsuitable for a primary school because it would necessitate stairs and primary schools should be single storey. No surprise to see the proposed new build primary school on the Nine Acre is two storey. Seems to prove the point!

Crown Buildings have official been re opened after complete refurbishment. Another building saved, the last chief executive Helen Paterson was set on its demolition , however another avenue was pursued and its now a building fit for the 21st century. It can be done if all parties are willing to explore all the options. Is the option for a new school on the Groves Site rather than the Nine Acre really a lost cause ?
