The government say a pay rise for nurses is unaffordable and yet , Councillors have had a pay rise of over 20% in two years , MP’s have also had a substantial pay rise and the green light to spend money on a Christmas party and charge it to expenses! The governing elite have got their priorities wrong.

Very true but what about the very very high levels of sickness within the NHS which is costing millions to bring in the extra staff.I could comment further on this but I will not

    Fair point ‘wrexview’.
But the Governing elite do have their priorities. You may think they are wrong but the voters have agreed with them for the last twelve years.
I too find it strange that working people have voted to reduce their own living standards, voted for reduced public services, are content to pay the highest amount in tax ever, as they watch the National Health Service being sold off.
The Conservative priorities are to continue this so that the wealthy elite can have an even better lifestyle.
Still you get what you vote for I suppose…..

Whether it is Labour in Cardiff or Conservatives in Westminister the effect on the NHS is the same. A united NHS serving the United Kingdom would be a start. How much money is wasted repeating scans , tests and x rays because hospitals in England can’t access Welsh hospitals information and the opposite, Wales unable to access English ones. Everyone has a unique NHS number so an individual’s information should easily be accessible across invisible borders. Assume it is incompatible IT systems rather than some political disagreement!

Wrexview – simple solution let the patient hold the information rather than trying to fight an incurable system. Put patients in control as they are the common factor.

Janej that wouldn’t work for children or those with dementia. All UK should be under the same system.

NHS could face bill of more than £1bn to fund upcoming pay rise!

The current asylum system is costing the taxpayer £1.5 billion a year, and when the UK is spending almost £7m a day on hotels for asylum seekers, couldn’t this money be spent elsewhere, maybe the NHS?

Remember Boris Johnson’s 350 million a week to the NHS after Brexit?

Like everything else we can’t do bugga all about it apart from moan. So lets sit there in our thermals shivering and let those in charge continue to do their worst.

“In 2021/22, NHS Wales spent £133.4m on agency nursing, an increase of 41% on the previous year. “

So they found an increase of 41% to fund agency staff in one year, but can’t find money for a proper pay increase for those who have remained loyal to the NHS in Wales.

Where did the extra money come from ?

Wreview — simple answer, the majority came from the money being saved from all of the vacancies across the Health Services so not a great deal of ‘extra’ funding. Also many nurses decide to work as agency as they get paid more for a lot less reasonability. All nurses on the agency listing know that there will always be plenty of work for them due to an overall staff shortage.

Yes there is a need to increase wages but that will also drive up the fees that the agencies charge. Untill there is a significant influx of new nurses the spiral will keep spinning.

Levels of sickness in the NHS at 7,5% an incredible figure. If they did not have to pay the extra millions to cover this then they might have a chance of a decent pay rise.
