So good bye to one of the few green areas left in the town centre. Have the Council and the Catholic Church even looked at the Groves site as an alternative , either as a new build or a refurbishment. A mixture of new build and refurbishment could accommodate an “all through” school for children from Nursery to Sixth Form. A new build on a green field site is the easy option, but this Council will be guilty of destroying a rare green open space in the town centre forever, if they go for the easy option.

Get it built and stop all the prevarication. To my mind, the objectors argument doesn’t hold water and it’s more to do with perceived disturbance than to a loss of green space.

Refurbishment won’t qualify for gov. funds – the resulting building needs to be energy efficient and heating a big old hulk of 1930s vintage inherently will not be for the funds you get. It is also now listed so can’t be demolished.

Only alternative is to hive off the Groves playing fields and do it there, but that will probably just make the Groves itself even less likely to attract a buyer.

Well if old 1930’s buildings can’t be brought into the energy efficient 21st Century , what hope is there for all those pre 1930’s homes that cover large parts of Wrexham. Where there is a will, a way can be found. Crown Buildings is a case to prove the point, it was on the condemmed list under a previous chief executive , but look at it now!

1930’s buildings are brought up to code all the time; but the Groves is listed. You can’t just cover it in off the shelf energy efficient cladding and replace the windows as was done to Crown Buildings.

Yes, Wrexham Council can’t be relied on to be custodians, it will be gone forever as a green open space.

Monday is decision day! A simple yes / no question we are told. Will it be a free vote or a whipped one along party lines . That’s the Independent Party line !

Whatever the outcome for Nine Acres they need to do something with Grove Park as it is an embarrassment, sitting as it does on one of the main gateways into the City centre.

Perhaps they will open up the grounds as a public park as a replacement to Nine Acres if the planning goes through.

With all the new housing going up around the city , there is a case for building a new school in other areas , rather than bus young children into the city centre. Has anyone analysed the travel patterns of the buses that bring the pupils to St Mary’s School?
