New faces on Wrexham Council but still the same old tired, lacklustre men on the Executive board. That says to me that all we can expect is more of the continued failings of policies that dramatically affect core services including social care, education etc.

With all the initiatives being promoted nationally for greater diversity in gender representation in all walks of life, it is quite telling that there is only one token female on the Executive.

    Cronyism at its finest.

Since when has the Executive Board had 10 members? Is the increase due to the increased size of the actual Council by four members ? Who made the decision and what criteria did they use ? Additional costs already for the new Council of four extra councillor’s salaries and now an extra Executive Board member.

The Executive Board has been 10 members for a number of years, nothing has changed.

If Bithell moves to housing don’t be surprised if he comes up with the bright idea of getting rid of all the houses as they just attract people wanting to live in them.

BenjaminM:-I wouldn’t disagree with your comment “some old tired lacklustre men on the Executive”
As for the gender makeup. The Independent/Conservative Group have only 4 female councillors from who to choose from. 2 are newly elected and have no chance, whilst one probably will become a “Chair”. The opposition between them have 10 female councillors and whilst I say opposition, this carries no weight in Wrexham Council due to the bickering that goes on.

This makes a good read , lots of promises about governance, hope new Council lives up to the expectations.

Obviously missed the expansion of the Executive Board!

With not taking much interest in Local politics whos idea was the executive board and how many years has it been going, also if we have 52 councilors do they get to vote on every subject or just the ones they are allowed,Also do other councils work the same way or is it just Wrexham.

Tony Blair introduced Cabinet Style/Executive Board run Councils. This small group in practice are the decision makers, much the same as central government’s Cabinet, and the Full Council approve them. This approach leaves many Councillors feeling powerless. This can be reversed and East Cheshire has done this recently giving the power back to committees and giving more Councillors a real input into decisions making.

In the ‘REAL’ world how many of the Councilors appointed to the Executive would even get shortlisted for the roles based on their personal CVs. How can they oversee such important issues if they don’t have any professional experience? Having been to school does not give you the knowledge to oversee our Education, having your bins collected and tripped on a pothole is not expertise for the Environment, are just a couple.

This really highlights politics at it’s worst…

It comes across to me that if you show some opposition to the Independents as a member of say Lib Dem, then jump ship to become an Independent. Your chances of attaining Executive Board status increases alarmingly. As has been alluded to, qualifications seem irrelevant.
