I had someone ask in town today have Conservative, Labour and Plaid made a pact with Mark Pritchard that they wouldn’t put anyone up against him as they know the Independents will get most seats so are already aligning with him to have a coalition — it seemed a farfetched question but does fraise the point about why no one has stood against him. Most Political Parties in Elections make it a priority to try and oust a Council Leader and have now effectively given him a full endorsement of the way he has led the Council in the past 5 years!
Will Dana Davies from Labour, Hugh Jones from Conservative and Marc Jones/Carrie Harper Plaid come out publicly before the election and state they have not had discussions around a post-election carve up of the Executive positions?
There’s an assumption that Hugh Jones, Carrie Harper, Marc Jones and Dana Davies will get re elected. Maybe the electorate will have other opinions. Michael Morris is another one who is unopposed and he’s been the Planning Committee chairman for decades or so it seems! Hope they at least shuffle the pack when the jobs are giving out in the new Council!
Re Michael Morris chair of planning. I believe that Mike is a rare thing in Wrexham Politics. He gets to be Chair of Planning because he is by a long way the best councillor for the job. It is sad that other posts with extra money are gifted by Mark Pritchard to sycophants to protect his position.
