JaneJParticipantSo the Council Executive have yet again agreed to increase the rates by over 4& – whilst most people would accept that inflation rises are inevitable but in the case of the Council it is increase year on year and reduction in services and quality year on year. Where else do we pay more for less?
Roads that look like they are in the outback of Australia or Third World countries- pot holes you could drown in!
Schools in an out of Special Measures consistently failing our children and young people.
Childrens Social Service on the brink of collapse
Libraries closed or cut back
Youth Services that are almost non existent
Town Centre decayingIt is a constant spiral downwards when will this stop?

Part of the problem I believe is the poor quality of full time officers that this council employs. Secondly, councillors that should probe more into the reports put out by these officers.

WreX-iTParticipantSolution is not to work, say you have less than £6k savings and become homeless.
You get a Council House, all sorts of benefits and you don’t have to pay Council Tax.
If you can push out a few fatherless kids then you are a real winner! There are jobs going but its easier and pays more to go on benefits. If more people played the game and paid Council Tax then it wouldn’t have to be 4% plus and council services wouldn’t be going to hell in a handbag.
Staff have been cut right back to save money but then the work is shared across who is left so it gets worse and worse. Its not us yet but more than eight out of 10 English councils providing adult social care services are at technical risk of bankruptcy – or face fresh cuts to services – because they cannot meet the financial pressures caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to a study by thinktank the Centre for Progressive Policy.
We need the council to do there job and people to play the game and put money into the economy.

JaneJParticipantJust been prompted by Wrerxham.com article on the Rossett Planning Application being passed and residents looking to challenge the decision. If it had been turned down as a large-scale development which equals large scale profit they would have appealed to Cardiff , won and then the applicant claims costs.
How much money have the Council had to pay out repaying Planning Application Appeal costs in the past few years. Never a week seems to go by without some appeal being granted. and costs having to be paid.
February 9, 2022 at 7:09 pm #215112
TruthbeknownParticipantThe problems we have are the Council as a whole think its ok to spend money on fancy projects without a thought as to the costs involved and Councillors who tweet pictures of unbelievably poor work paid for by us the tax payer actually expecting praise !!!. I would rather you actually complain about the quality of work carried out.
Planning is a joke we have a planning committee so far behind the times its wasting a fortune on appeal costs just because they take it personal, watching on webcast is cringeworthy.
Look around Mr and Mrs Councillor, stop playing your bloody politics, Wrexham is dying on its feet, do something, earn your pay.

Born AcornParticipantThe Rossett houses themselves were won on appeal, again because the councillors will always err on the side of caution with controversial planning apps and would rather Cardiff take the blame.
Unfortunately it’s come back to bite them on the bum because nobody can tell the difference between Outline and Reserved matters applications, so people now think the council have “agreed the houses” even though that happened last year.

David ThomasParticipantA children’s services at the council that overspend by £3 million?
February 16, 2022 at 11:50 am #215432
JaneJParticipantThe ‘overspend’ has been the same for the past few years – surly all necessary cuts have been made and any overspend now really implies that the budget is too low in the first place. With an increasing demand for children and young people needing support any cuts now will only create more costly support later.
By calling it an overspend is putting undue pressure on the managers in Childrens services who are trying to do the best with a reduced resource. Childrens services are also under scrutiny from Care Inspectorate Wales due to failing areas.February 16, 2022 at 12:40 pm #215439
wrexviewParticipantSurely this year’s Council financial forecast should make provision to cover last year’s overspend and include enough money to cover this year’s projected expenditure. Isn’t the point of the budgeting excercise to balance, income against the expected expenditure? Otherwise only debt is being accumulated.

So it’s a leadership issue?
Childrens services are also under scrutiny from Care Inspectorate Wales due to failing areas
Having dealt with the children’s services i can only say they have not improved since the issues were highlighted in 17/18, in fact they seem to be getting worse.
