wrexviewParticipantEluned Morgan doesn’t like negative comments regarding BCHB. The problem is the facts speak for themselves, five years in special measures and huge financial cuts for the next three years, will influence potential applicants. Time for some creativity on the health boards behave , good well qualified staff should be your priority. What extras can you offer , job share, part time , accommodation , subsidised food, free parking, ample staffing ratios , there must be many more. Also historically North Wales had good connections with foreign countries, maybe these need to be reignited. The NHS is at breaking point , not just here in Wales , it’s needs to adapt or it will collapse!

JaneJParticipantThere should be no gagging by any politician as this goes against the fundamentals of free speech – look what happens if you impose restriction- Russia, North Korea.
I’m sure most of your ideas are already being offered – the point about staff from foreign countries is noticed as soon as you go to hospitals you will see Dr, nurses and other staff with a very wide mix of nationalities. The NHS in this country would collapse overnight if we did not have a substantial foreign workforce.
You have omitted a significant issue which is members of the public going to hospital when a visit to a local supermarket for paracetamol or chemist for more information rather than turning up in a hospital. Go to A & E on a Saturday afternoon and see the number of parents who have children with minor grazes from falling playing football. Often these only need cleaning with warm water, cotton wool and a plaster.
Our Health Services cannot cope with the volume of people trying to access the system when there is such a backlog. When something is serious then obviously seek proper medical help.
Throwing political money at such a big problem is not the issue if the staff are not available to fill vacancies – Doctors are min 6 years for a basis level of training 10 years to get to Consultant standard – there is no short term fix.

BenjaminMParticipantI agree that A&E is totally misused and abused by people who, with a little common sense could alleviate the problem substantially.
Another factor, I’m quite convinced is the ridiculously stupid name of the Health Board. It give no indication whatsoever of its geographic location. Why not call it what it is – North Wales Health Board?

wrexviewParticipantTotally agree about the name,North Wales Health Board tells everyone instantly where it’s located.
If A&E is being used for minor problems maybe the BCHB should consider setting up a minors clinic away from the hospital site, like the Hightown Community Hub or similar and nurse lead. So the hospital could re direct people there.
The other problem is bed blocking , those who are fit enough to leave hospital but not fit enough to look after themselves without help. A suitable solution to this problem would free up the bed space that would allow A&E to move their patients on quicker.
Remember the old Convalescent Homes , all closed now , land sold and houses built on much of it now . How long before someone will come up with a version of them as a solution to the bed blocking problem, thinking its new idea !

parkingmadParticipantA couple of months ago I had to go to A&E with chest pains. About every hour a nurse would do a role call to see if the patients were still there, and they would be a few no answers. One man was there for about 4 hours, when asked by staff to put his mask back on he complied, then he had a go at one of the staff, refused to put his mask back on then left. Then a woman and her little daughter turned up, then after a couple of hours they left without being seen. They couldn’t of been desperate to see a doctor.

JaneJParticipantHealth Services are like a conveyor belt and people must move along it to make way for the next person who may get on the belt by walking in as a self-referral, sent by their GP or brought be ambulance. At any time, someone could get off the conveyor belt if it is not moving fast enough and take a decision to go home leaving a space for some to move up a notch. At the end of the conveyor belt there is a Dr or nurse giving treatment in A & E – people may then be sent home or referred to a bed in the hospital. Beds only being available if people are discharged back home or to the Care Sector that is run by Local Councils.
It only takes one blockage at any point and the entire system can grind to a rapid halt leading to delays at the entry point, ambulances backed up and treatment being delayed. Let’s all play our part and think twice before thinking a hospital is our only solution.

wrexviewParticipantBetter communication would help, awhile back there was an site that gave you a rough estimate of waiting times in the Wrexham Maelor A&E , the powers at BCHB decided that wasn’t a good advert so just reverted to over 4hrs. They have missed the point here , we all understand that things are difficult and waiting times are long ,so why cover it up,be honest and you may find some of those who don’t really require emergency treatment might think twice about joining the queue. Even a small drop in A&E attendance would help. Surely worth a try! The public and the health board need to work together if the NHS is to survive as a real emergency service!

wrexviewParticipantGlan Clwyd Hospital Emergency Department designated ‘Service Requiring Significant Improvement’
Nothing has changed , this isn’t news, the last paragraph says it all. BCHB was only removed from special measures after FIVE years, just before the election to the Assembly , totally a political decision and not related to any quantifiable measure of improvement. Yet another damming inspection in Glan Clwyd of its A&E department , remember Wrexham people can and do get taken there directly depending on their illness.
Every time a report likes this comes out, the same old meaningless words are uttered , promises of improvements and NOTHING HAPPENS!

zingerParticipantWho in their right mind would even want to go to A&E if treatment was not needed?
Chairs are uncomfortable, dirty marks all around the walls where people have rested their heads & presumably because it is a covid hotspot, automatic doors that open & close all night.
Could it be that more triage staff be utilised to direct people to more suitable places for minor scrapes bearing in mind that GP practices aren’t doing face to face appointments & pharmacies are run off their feet & not open on Sundays or evenings?
Young inexperienced parents without family backup might be quite genuinely concerned if their child is injured or ill.

Staff at Bangor Hospital suffering low morale, bullying and staffing issues. More words from BCUHB of looking into the situation, but no plan of action, they have no idea how to deliver improvements.
