We here at Wrexham.com sent written letters to all 130 odd candidates in the local Wrexham Council elections this year, and here are the replies! Where there is no reply below from a candidate, we did not receive one before the week of the 23rd April. If you are a candidate or voter reading this join in the debate or let us know what you think in our Wrexham Forums!!

Holt (1 seat)
Craddock – Welsh Liberal Democrats
Evans – Welsh Labour (answered below)
Morris – Welsh Conservatives

Luke Evans – Welsh Labour

1 – Which party do you align yourself with, and why? (Or if non aligned, why not?)

Labour- because I believe in social justice and equal opportunities. There is no party who would better help a person on the streets into university or employment.

2 – What will be your first personal priority or aim if you were elected?

To look into education policy as something has gone wrong over the years.

3 – Why do you personally want to be a councillor when so often you just get blamed for problems beyond your control?

To change and suggest new ideas others may not be qualified to make i.e. policies affecting my generation.

4 – Many politicians and local councillors are accused of bring out of touch with voters. What will you do to ensure you stay ‘in touch’?

Hold surgeries; make myself contactable and make regular appearances on the door step and at regular events.

5 – How do you plan to tackle or prevent anti-social behaviour in your local area?

Work closely with police on timings, strategies and prevention of crime.

6 – Do you think any local authority has the means to improve economic and job opportunities? And if you do, what do you think the priority actions should be?

The local authority can create economic opportunities in many ways i.e. getting rid of inappropriate car park charges and encouraging entrepreneurialism in schools. As I experienced at Darland, placing obstacles in the way of progress means the younger generation simply won’t invest in Wrexham.

7 – What do you think has been the best decicion taken by the council in the last four years?

Backing PCSO’s to maintain a presence.

8 – What do you think has been the worst decicion taken by the council in the last four years?

The worst decision is not allowing UK Youth Parliament elections and instead backing a backward bureaucratic decision to support a “dysfunctional and undemocratic” Welsh Youth Parliament.

9 – What is your favourite place to visit or favourite thing to do in the local area?

My favourite places to visit are Bellis’ Strawberry farms, Eagles Meadow Bowling Wrexham and cycling to Rossett.

10 – If you had to pick your best memory connected to Wrexham, what would it be?

The best memory has to be meeting Prime Minister Gordon Brown in May 2010 at ‘The Catrin Finch Centre’.
