We here at Wrexham.com sent written letters to all 130 odd candidates in the local Wrexham Council elections this year, and here are the replies! Where there is no reply below from a candidate, we did not receive one before the week of the 23rd April. If you are a candidate or voter reading this join in the debate or let us know what you think in our Wrexham Forums!!

1 – Which party do you align yourself with, and why? (Or if non aligned, why not?)

I have always been a member of Plaid Cymru and that is simply because Plaid Cymru is the only party to put Wales first. Successive London parties have left Wales as one of the most deprived areas of the UK.

2 – What will be your first personal priority or aim if you were elected?

Ensure that Gwersyllt North tenants get their fair share of monies to improve and maintain council houses, I don’t believe this is the case at present.

3 – Why do you personally want to be a councillor when so often you just get blamed for problems beyond your control?

Because I have seen what 4 Plaid Cymru Councillors have achieved in Wrecsam and I want to make that team stronger and deliver even better results for the people of Wrecsam.

4 – Many politicians and local councillors are accused of bring out of touch with voters. What will you do to ensure you stay ‘in touch’?

Being seen out and about and making sure that people know how to contact by publishing my details in newsletters and on posters in public places.

5 – How do you plan to tackle or prevent anti-social behaviour in your local area?

Working closely with the PCSO’s and Council officers identifying the underlying causes and removing them.

6 – Do you think any local authority has the means to improve economic and job opportunities? And if you do, what do you think the priority actions should be?

Council to create traineeships for young people and better education so that young people leaving school have the right skills.

7 – What do you think has been the best decision taken by the council in the last four years?

Council voting to oppose the Planning Inspector’s decision to increase the number of houses to be built from 8,000 to 12,000, also the Solar PV project was a great initiative.

8 – What do you think has been the worst decision taken by the council in the last four years?

Not listening to people and applying for city status.

9 – What is your favourite place to visit or favourite thing to do in the local area?

I’m quite partial to a (bit!) of retail therapy around Wrecsam, also I like going for a walk in Alun Waters and Moss, both on my doorstep and finally a visit to the Saith Seren!

10 – If you had to pick your best memory connected to Wrexham, what would it be?

The 12 months leading up to the National Eisteddfod because of all the fundraising activities that took place culminating in a wonderful and successful week last August.
