We here at Wrexham.com sent written letters to all 130 odd candidates in the local Wrexham Council elections this year, and here are the replies! Where there is no reply below from a candidate, we did not receive one before the week of the 23rd April. If you are a candidate or voter reading this join in the debate or let us know what you think in our Wrexham Forums!

Erddig (1 seat)
Birch – Plaid Cymru
Clements – Welsh Conservatives
Dutton – Independent
Jones – Welsh Liberal Democrats

Birch – Plaid Cymru

1 – Which party do you align yourself with, and why? (Or if non aligned, why not?)

Plaid Cymru, as it is the only party that is in tune with the people of Wrecsam and Wales as a whole.

2 – What will be your first personal priority or aim if you were elected?

To work to stop the £11.2 million being sent to the UK Treasury when it is needed here in Wrecsam to improve our housing stock.

3 – Why do you personally want to be a councillor when so often you just get blamed for problems beyond your control?

I want to improve things in the community where I grew up and my family still live. I would be privileged to represent the people of Erddig.

4 – Many politicians and local councillors are accused of bring out of touch with voters. What will you do to ensure you stay ‘in touch’?

I will do quarterly newsletters as well as going round the ward knocking on residents doors to see if any problems, attend the residents meetings and be contactable via phone or email anytime as well as be on facebook.

5 – How do you plan to tackle or prevent anti-social behaviour in your local area?

By working with the PCSO’s to identify the problems and work with them, residents and the young people of the area to tackle this continuous problem.

6 – Do you think any local authority has the means to improve economic and job opportunities? And if you do, what do you think the priority actions should be?

Yes I do, by introducing traineeships for young unemployed people within the council, ensure council contracts go to local firms. They need to support local small business and attract more business to the markets.

7 – What do you think has been the best decision taken by the council in the last four years?

Installing the 3,000 Solar PV reducing the councils carbon footprint, whilst helping reduce tenants energy bills.

8 – What do you think has been the worst decision taken by the council in the last four years?

Not listening to the people of Wrecsam by putting in a bid for City Status.

9 – What is your favourite place to visit or favourite thing to do in the local area?

Walking in Erddig, a beautiful place that I go on my own for peace or with my partner and daughter have a paddle, a walk and have fun as a family.

10 – If you had to pick your best memory connected to Wrexham, what would it be?

My daughter taking part in the National Eistedfodd last year with the Cylch Meithrin Bodhyfryd and going on with her.
