We here at Wrexham.com sent written letters to all 130 odd candidates in the local Wrexham Council elections this year, and here are the replies! Where there is no reply below from a candidate, we did not receive one before the week of the 23rd April. If you are a candidate or voter reading this join in the debate or let us know what you think in our Wrexham Forums!

Little Acton (1 seat)
Baldwin – Independent
Davies – Welsh Liberal Democrats
Richards – Welsh Labour

William Baldwin – Independent

1 – Which party do you align yourself with, and why? (Or if non aligned, why not?)

I am standing as Independent because like a lot of people I feel the main parties don’t care about or listen to the electorate.

2 – What will be your first personal priority or aim if you were elected?

Where to begin? Firstly carry on the good work the community council is doing The Smithy Estate needs a lot of work on its roads. I will press for this to be done.

3 – Why do you personally want to be a councillor when so often you just get blamed for problems beyond your control?

I want to halt the destruction of our town and feel I have a lot to offer. I feel our present councillors have let Wrexham down badly. I may not please everyone but its time for a change.

4 – Many politicians and local councillors are accused of bring out of touch with voters. What will you do to ensure you stay ‘in touch’?

I live in Little Acton, use the local shops and amenities, and walk my dog through the area. Have a barber shop in town and will always be accessible to all. I will not hide away.

5 – How do you plan to tackle or prevent anti-social behaviour in your local area?

We are fortunate that it is not a major problem in the local area at present but I will work to keep this up by working with the local police and council officers.

6 – Do you think any local authority has the means to improve economic and job opportunities? And if you do, what do you think the priority actions should be?

Yes I do but the council’s staff morale is at an all time low. We need to get them on board with a new vision for our town’s future. We need to show Wrexham is open for business we need to make Wrexham an attractive location to bring employers and their families to the area.

7 – What do you think has been the best decicion taken by the council in the last four years?

I quite honestly can’t think of anything worth talking about. Sorry

8 – What do you think has been the worst decicion taken by the council in the last four years?

Many things, but the most embarrassing for the town must be the city status bid. We were humiliated.

9 – What is your favourite place to visit or favourite thing to do in the local area?

I am fortunate that I live in such a nice area. Locally Acton Park stands out but we must work to keep it a pleasant place to visit. Wrexham is in a wonderful part of the country with many things we may not always appreciate.

10 – If you had to pick your best memory connected to Wrexham, what would it be?

I have so many great memories of Wrexham, lots with the football team, who could forget the LDV final. Personally my daughter’s recent wedding.
