Wrexham Maelor Hospital is the second largest hospital in Wales and is run under the umbrella of the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board.
The hospital is situated to the west of Wrexham holding 697 beds and can easily be accessed via the nearby A483, regular bus services from Wrexham Bus Station or by taxi from Wrexham General train station.
The Maelor is a a major acute district hospital home to 34 wards which offer a range of services including accident and emergency, critical care, surgery, radiology, maternity, medical assessment, psychiatric care and more.
The first phase of the hospital as it currently stands was opened by the Duchess of Kent in 1985 when services were transferred there from the War Memorial Hospital, the second phase was opened by the Duke of Kent in 1998. It became an NHS Trust on 1st April 1993.
It has close ties with several Welsh universities including the nearby Glyndwr University, Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea and is also home to Wrexham Medical Institute.
