Welcome to our ‘What’s On Guide’ for 25th-31st May 2012

Friday 25th May

Folk-rock group Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog and singer-son Dan Amor are playing the Saith Seren on Friday night for what promises to be an intimate gig. Starts 8pm. Tickets £5 advance or £6 on the night.

On the same night there’s a free gig at Central Station with local band The Fag Machine headlining. Starts 9pm.

Glyndwr University’s summer ball is also taking place with an appearance from Ciaran Griffiths, who plays Mickey Maguire in Channel Four’s Shameless at the Centenary Club and is open to non-students. A host of musical acts will take to the stage, including tributes to the likes of Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and Arctic Monkeys. Tickets, priced at £12 or £6 concessions, are available from the students guild building.

Friday 25th – Saturday 26th May

From Friday to Saturday Chester Operatic Society will be performing Pirates of Penzance at the William Aston Hall in Wrexham. Show starts at 7.30pm every night. Adults £14 concession £12 child £6.

Friday 25th to Saturday 2nd June

A performance of Bram Stoker’s Dracula will be held at Grove Park Theatre in Wrexham for the next week. Starts 7.30pm. Call the box office on 01978 351 091 for ticket prices.

Saturday 26th May

A Jubilee celebration event is being held at St Marys Primary School, Brymbo with an afternoon cream tea, a slide show to look back over the years within the village of Brymbo, raffle, bingo, quiz and tea and cake all on offer. Event suitable for over 50s. Starts 2pm. Free transport is provided, contact Mandy Townsend on 01978 358900.

Caia Park Community Police Day is also on at the Caia Park Partnership on Prince Charles Road. Local police will be hosting stands exhibitions and displays. 10am-4pm. Entry free.

In the evening three local bands are playing at the Wrexham Lager Club with Gallops, Mother of Six and Warsisters. Starts 8pm. Ticets £4 advance or £5 on the door.

Sunday 27th May

If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday why not try your hand at model aircraft flying? The talented members of the BMFA will be on hand at the Plassey Tea Garden to show you how. 11am-4pm. Free event.

This month’s Wrexham for Wrexham networking event for local businesses and self employed people in the Wrexham area is on at the Waterways Garden Center from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday. Entry £5 to cover buffet. Contact Nicola Burns on 07825 240872 or email [email protected].

Tuesday 29th May

On Tuesday a workshop is being held for people of all ages to make a simple windmill/flag ready for the visit of the Olympic Torch in Wrexham the next day. Times 3.30pm, 4pm & 4.30pm. Entry £1. Box Office: 01978 292093 advanced booking is required.

Aiden vocalist William Control is at Central Station on Tuesday night as part of his solo electronic dark wave project. Starts 7pm. Entry £10.

Wednesday 30th May

In what will be a historic day for Wrexham the Olympic Torch comes to Wrexham on its journey round the UK ahead of London 2012. It will enter town via Mold Road at 7.25am and exit at 9.07am via the stunning Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Details of the route, road closures and celebrations on Llwyn Isaf can be found on our site. We will also be providing live coverage of the torch’s journey through town.

Thursday 31st May

An information evening will take place to support applications to popular sports grant Community Chest. The grant from Sport Wales offers individuals and organisations up to £1500 of National Lottery funding towards projects. The informal drop in session will take place at Brymbo Enterprise Centre between 6-8pm on Thursday where officers will be available to help groups and individuals complete applications and offer advice on how to make the most out of the funding available.
