Welcome to our ‘What’s On Guide’ for 18-24th May 2012

Friday 18th May

The Welsh Chamber Orchestra are due to play a free concert at Glyndwr University on Friday featuring a performance of a new work by Royal Wedding and Military Wives composer Paul Mealor. As well as Mealor’s work the concert will feature pieces by Mozart, Mathias and Haydn. The free concert starts at 7.30pm in the William Aston Hall and seats will be issued on a first come first serve basis.

Wrexham rock n rollers Bring The Soul have got an EP launch on the same night at Central Station. For an idea of what they have to offer you can listen to their first EP via their soundclound page at www.soundcloud.com/bringthesoul. The show starts at 7pm and tickets cost £5.

Brymbo Male Choir are holding a concert at Brymbo Parish Church (St. Mary’s) at 7.30pm also with performances from flautist Lynsey Blair and will be joined by Dumfries Male Choir. Entry £5.

Saturday 19th May

Garden Village Playgroup are holding a family fun day at the play group on Wat’s Dyke Way. A fancy dress parade led by Fireman Sam starts at 12.30pm from Bethel Church and you are invited to bring your own musical instrument to join in. A bouncy castle, barbeque, 999 area, beer tent, Llay Brass Band, raffle and fundraising stalls will all be on offer. 50p entrance.

The Plassey Craft & Retail Centre is holding a jewellery and bead workshop from 10.30am-4.30pm. The event is free and described as suitable for all ages. For more information call Sarah Brookshaw on 01978 780277 or email [email protected].

Brymbo Male Choir have another concert on Saturday night featuring the same performers this time at Rossett Parish Church (Christ Church). Starts 7.30pm, entry £5.

You can spend the evening at Chirk Castle on Saturday in a ‘night at the museum’ style event where you will meet the garrison on a behind-closed-doors experience of medieval life. Starts 7pm. Child £5 adult £10 family ticket £25. Booking essential, call 01691 777701.

Monday 21st May

The Plassey is holding a mother and toddler cake decorating class from 10am till 12 noon. Tickets cost £15 for an adult and child. Contact Nicola Matthias on 07708 936979 or email [email protected].

Heats for the Only Way Is Wrexham talent show are being held at the Stiwt Theatre in Rhosllanerchrugog. Starts 7pm, tickets £6 adults £4 concessions.

Tuesday 22nd-Saturday 26th May

From Tuesday to Saturday Chester Operatic Society will be performing Pirates of Penzance at the William Aston Hall in Wrexham. Show starts at 7.30pm every night. Adults £14 concession £12 child £6.

Wednesday 23rd May

If you fancy a bit of poetry on Wednesday evening Wrexham Library are hosting poetry readings led by Aled Lewis Evans, with musical interludes on the clarinet by Daniel Brian Hughes. Starts 7pm and entry is free.

Australian two-piece, DZ Deathrays are one of the most hotly tipped bands of 2012 and on Wednesday evening they hit ROPE at Central Station for a headline show. Support comes from local artists Doppelganger, I Am Austin and The Fag Machine. Starts 7.30pm entry £6.

Thursday 24th May

A performance of Bram Stoker’s Dracula will be held at Grove Park Theatre in Wrexham on Thursday evening. Starts 7.30pm. Call the box office on 01978 351 091 for ticket prices.

Experimental Cardiff rock band Islet will be playing Rope at Central Station on Thursday night. Starts 7.30pm. Entry £7.
